The Shell Pilipinas Corporation office hosted a pivotal gathering of industry leaders on June 28, 2024, as it became the epicenter of chemical stewardship. The Responsible Care (RC) meeting, on behalf of the Responsible Care Chairman Engr. Reinier C. Bagabay, was expertly steered by Engr. Albert A. Samuela, SPIK’s Vice President for External Affairs and a RC Tricord member, brought together a cohort of influential figures from the nation’s chemical sector. Ms. Janet Z. Marcellana of Shell Pilipinas Corporation, Engr. Joy Pena of Dow Chemical Philippines, Ms. Liza Lumbres from TNC Chemicals, and Engr. Bob Chaervin Castrence of JG Summit Olefins Corporation were all in attendance, ably supported by SPIK Executive Officer, Ms. Antonette C. Fallarme.

The conference room buzzed with anticipation as the group delved into an array of crucial topics. The spotlight was on an innovative webinar series, a collaborative endeavor between SPIK and Health Security Partners (HSP), aimed at fortifying chemical security among the country’s Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This initiative promises to cascade invaluable knowledge, fostering a robust security culture within the sector’s smaller players. Another significant point of discussion was the imminent registration of the revamped RC logo, symbolizing the industry’s unity and ongoing commitment to the environment, health, safety, and security. This visual representation will serve as a beacon of assurance to stakeholders and the public, highlighting the sector’s responsible practices.

The meeting also touched on the eagerly awaited RC Verification Training; an event bolstered by the American Chemistry Council’s steadfast support. This training session will empower companies to adhere to international standards, thereby enhancing the industry’s global competitiveness. Rounding out the agenda were the meticulously planned corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, namely a coastal clean-up and tree planting event. These efforts underscore SPIK’s dedication to environmental conservation and community development.

The SPIK Responsible Care Meeting stands as a testament to the collaborative spirit and shared vision of its members, shaping a sustainable future for the chemical industry in the Philippines.
