The Philippine Chemical Industry

The Philippine Chemical Industry is the branch of the manufacturing sector that converts various materials into useful and profitable products via chemical reactions and process.

Nearly all manufacturing processes make use of chemicals. According to the American Chemistry Council, 96% of all manufactured products are touched by the business of chemistry; it is considered an intermediate activity with extensive upstream and downstream links with other sectors.

The chemical industry is involved in agriculture (fertilizers and pesticides), food processing (preservatives, flavorings, shortening, and colorants), textiles (dyes, resins, and finishes), construction (paints, coatings, adhesives, cement additives, mastics, and sealants), health care (drugs and pharmaceuticals), mining (floatation agents, leaching chemicals, and activated carbon), metals and engineering (foundry resins and industrial gases), electronics (plastics and industrial gases), packaging (inks, plastics, adhesives and surface coatings), and even in national defense (explosives).

To describe the state of the Philippine chemical industry, SPIK has selected chemical sub-sectors that serve majority of the market.
