The second meeting of the Ease of Doing Business (EODB) Sub-Working Group, a vital component of the Philippine Chemical Industry Roadmap, took place on August 19, 2024, at the Department of Trade and Industry’s Board of Investments (DTI BOI) building in Makati. Engr. Gretchen F. Enarle, the president of the Samahan sa Pilipinas ng mga Industriyang Kimika (SPIK), steered the session, with Mr. Ronaldo DC. Buluran, the Acting Director of Manufacturing Industries Service, BOI, lending his co-chairmanship. The meeting was attended by representatives from SPIK, the Association of Petrochemical Manufacturers of the Philippines (APMP), and the BOI, all united by a common goal: to streamline the business environment for the chemical sector.

The day’s agenda featured discussions, with updates on the group’s efforts to improve interactions with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Philippine National Police’s Firearms and Explosives Office (PNP-FEO), and the implications of the Comelec Election Gun Ban for the industry. The Sub-Working Group also discussed the crafting of a position paper for the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the pressing concern of enforcing a 100% composition rule for chemical imports.

Ms. June Villasanta and Ms. Geraldine Buela, the dedicated Investments Specialists from the Manufacturing Industries Service, BOI, ensured the meeting’s seamless flow, providing essential support to the members. This meeting of leaders aimed to tackle the intricate challenges faced by the chemical industry and forge ahead with innovative solutions to bolster the nation’s economic landscape. Through constructive dialogue and strategic planning, the group sought to refine policies and procedures, thereby fostering an ecosystem ripe for growth and investment in the chemical sector.
