The Commission on Elections (Comelec) recently held a Gun Ban and Security Concerns Committee (GSC) Stakeholders Writeshop on November 13, 2024, at the Sequoia Hotel in Manila Bay. This event drew in approximately 150 attendees, highlighting the importance of the discussion on election security and the enforcement of gun bans during election periods. Key figures present included Engr. Jeffrey Mijares and Engr. Gretchen F. Enarle of the Samahan sa Pilipinas ng mga Industriyang Kimika (SPIK), and representatives from various law enforcement agencies and stakeholder groups.

The day’s agenda was packed with presentations from Atty. Nicole James and Arnie Joseph on Comelec Resolution No. 11067, both from the Comelec. The event commenced with a warm welcome from Atty. Akaia A. Co II and concluded with closing comments from PBGen Clint C. Bayacsan, who leads the PNP Delegation. The writeshop served as an essential platform for addressing concerns and sharing information regarding the implementation and effectiveness of gun bans in ensuring secure and peaceful elections.

An open forum session allowed for the exchange of ideas and concerns among the attendees, fostering collaboration and a unified approach to tackling the challenges related to controlled chemicals during election periods.
