The Samahan sa Pilipinas ng mga Industriyang Kimika (SPIK), under the leadership of President Engr. Gretchen F. Enarle, took part in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) regarding the Chemicals of Security Concern (CoSC) Regulatory Framework on December 13, 2024, in Makati City. This event was designed to assess the current CoSC framework as it relates to the Philippines’ regulatory authorities and to collect feedback from stakeholders within the chemical industry about managing the lifecycle of Tier 1A and Tier 1B chemicals, which includes importation, production, distribution, and disposal processes.

A detailed survey was distributed to participants to capture their views on compliance challenges and possible enhancement areas. The subsequent discussions facilitated a productive exchange of ideas and concerns among representatives from various sectors within the regulated community, promoting a cooperative atmosphere aimed at improving chemical security practices across the country.

This FGD proved essential for addressing the changing dynamics of chemical regulations while ensuring ongoing protection of public health, safety, and environmental integrity. SPIK’s involvement highlights its dedication to maintaining industry standards and aiding in the establishment of a strong and effective regulatory framework for chemicals deemed security concerns.
