18 Mar ASEAN- Japan Chemical Industry’s Labor Safety and Operational Safety Improvement Initiative
During the 22nd Meeting of AMEICC Working Group on Chemical Industry (WG-CI) held on July 5-6, 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Japan (METI) proposed a new initiative, namely “ASEAN-JAPAN Chemical Industry’s Labor Safety, Operational Safety, and Environment Improvement Initiative” as one of the future agenda of WG-CI which will run for 3 years starting from 2018 to 2020. This Project or proposal came about after the successful implementation of the ASEAN- Japan Chemical Safety Database in 2015 which aims to provide information and harmonize the chemical regulatory framework among ASEAN Member States.
In relation to this, a two day workshop was held on February 20 & 21, 2020 in Makati. It was the culmination of the 3-year program on sharing of best practices on labor and operational safety, a program supported by the Japanese government through the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in cooperation with AOTS, DTI-BOI and SPIK.
Mr. Tetsuhide SHINCHI, Deputy Director, Material Industries Division, Manufacturing Industries Bureau, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Director Eries Cagatan of the Board of Investments (BOI) and Engr. Gretchen Fontejon- Enarle, SPIK President delivered their speeches during the opening ceremonies.
Mr. Takashi Yamamoto and Mr. Masuki Ishii of the Japan Chemical Industry Association (JCIA) served as the subject matter experts and speakers during the plenary discussion of the topics. They also facilitated the workshop on incident investigation and reporting.
Ms. Marnie Pebrada, EHS Manager of Resorts World Manila and Engr. Salvador Ocampo Jr. of the Association of Safety Practitioner of the Philippines Inc. were also invited to share on best practices on labor and operational safety.
