17 Jul Strengthening Responsible Care® Through Industry–Academe Collaboration: Empowering TUP Alumni as Leaders in Chemical EHS Excellence Webinar
On July 17, 2026, the Technological University of the Philippines – Taguig Campus, in collaboration with the Samahan sa Pilipinas ng mga Industriyang Kimika (SPIK), held a hybrid webinar titled “Strengthening Responsible Care® Through Industry–Academe Collaboration: Empowering TUP Alumni as Leaders in Chemical EHS Excellence.” This event aimed to introduce the Responsible Care Initiative to the TUP community, raise awareness of chemical Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) best practices, reconnect TUP alumni in the chemical industry, and promote continuous learning in chemical safety, environmental stewardship, and process safety. The session was conducted via Zoom and face-to-face at the TUP Taguig Accreditation Room, followed by networking and a presentation of a proposed Master of Science in Engineering Management Program

The program opened with remarks from Dr. Zachariah John A. Belmonte, Head of the Research and Development Services and Center for Decision Engineering at TUP Taguig, who emphasized the importance of industry–academe partnerships in fostering professional development and workforce readiness. He thanked SPIK for their ongoing support and highlighted the role of such collaborations in advancing chemical safety and environmental stewardship.

Dr. Rexmelle F. Decapia Jr., TUP Taguig Campus Director, delivered a message affirming the university’s commitment to responsive education aligned with industry needs, encouraging active participation to cultivate leadership in chemical EHS excellence among students and alumni.

Engr. Gretchen F. Enarle, Director of Environmental, Social and Governance at SPIK, served as the keynote speaker. She discussed relevant laws, regulations, and best practices under the Responsible Care Initiative, stressing the shared responsibility of industry and academia in sustaining chemical safety and environmental protection. Her presentation highlighted how TUP alumni can lead initiatives to promote safety and sustainability within the chemical sector. This webinar reflected the strong partnership between TUP and SPIK and demonstrated their shared dedication to empowering graduates with knowledge and skills critical to chemical EHS leadership.

Dr. Emmanuel L. Ferrer, Assistant Director for Academic Affairs and faculty member at the Technological University of the Philippines – Taguig, delivered the closing remarks for the event. He expressed appreciation to SPIK and all participants for their active engagement and valuable contributions throughout the webinar. Dr. Ferrer emphasized the significance of sustained collaboration between industry and academia to continuously elevate the standards of chemical Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) excellence. He encouraged the TUP community, especially alumni, to apply the knowledge and best practices shared during the event to become proactive leaders in promoting responsible care and environmental stewardship in their respective workplaces. Finally, Dr. Ferrer reaffirmed TUP Taguig’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance professional growth and ensure workforce readiness in the chemical industry.
