09 Jun A Focus Group Discussion: Meeting of Professional Societies and Academic Organizations
The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) organized a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) of the Mathematical, Physical, and Biological Sciences Cluster on June 07, 2016 at the Hotel Jen Manila. SPIK was one of the privileged organizations to be invited in the FGD.
The FGD aims to assess the feasibility of convening a conference of professional and academic organizations. The discussion revolved around the current pool of human capital in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), including the social sciences, and the local capacity to respond to the Duterte Administration’s Development Agenda and the national R&D plan.
In December, the NAST PHL will be celebrating its 40th anniversary. According to Academician William G. Padolina, “One of the projects that the Academy wants to undertake is to organize a gathering, a conference or a forum of the professional societies that are engaged in science, technology, engineering and mathematics in September or October with the proposed theme: National Quest for Talent Development and Retention in response to increasing need to address national development goals. “
The NAST PHL is mandated by law (Executive Order 818 s.1982) to serve as adviser to the President of the Republic of the Philippines and the cabinet on policies concerning science and technology in the country.
