As part of the continuing efforts of the government on Ease of Doing Business, the DTI- BOI headed by Director Eries Cagatan organized a forum with the Bureau of Fire Protection on June 09, 2017 to discuss the issues and concerns encountered by the regulated sectors. It must be noted that the DTI- BOI also organized a similar forum in 2016 with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources- Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB).

CInsp Cesar Patrocinio Jr- Deputy Director for Fire Safety and Prevention National Headquarters presented the salient features of R.A. 9514 or the Revised Fire Code of the Philippines of 2008 while Insp Marlo Serito, Chief Prevention and Inspection Section discussed the requirements for an industrial and warehouse occupancies.

An open forum was facilitated by Mr. Manuel Cruz of BOI after the two presentations. In the forum, companies were enlightened on the issues of purchasing and servicing of fire extinguishers. It was mentioned that fire extinguishers are not mandatory to be refilled annually and there is BFP ruling on the preferred supplier for such items. However, it was also emphasized that companies must ensure that units are properly maintained.

Different industry associations from the plastic, paint, petrochemical, aerospace, ink and Oleochemicals sector participated in the said forum.
