The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) in cooperation with the Japan Chemical Industry Association (JCIA) organized the 2nd ASEAN Global Product Strategy (GPS) Leadership Meeting on June 28, 2016 at Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort, Pattaya, Thailand. Prior to this meeting, the kick off presentation of the GPS ASEAN Leadership Meeting was held on January 28, 2016 in Bangkok in conjunction to the 1st Workshop on ASEAN Regulatory Cooperation Project.

In his welcome message, Mr. Mahabir Koder Honorary Chairman of Chemical Industry Club and Chairman of Responsible Care® Management Committee of Thailand said that “the Meeting is a collaboration of various chemical associations of Japan, USA and ASEAN countries.” “The past GPS practices have been shared and covered GPS implementations in the future have been discussed” added Mr. Koder.

JCIA has been running GPS workshops in ASEAN countries under ICCA Capacity Building Task Force since 2009 and successfully completed all planned awareness, advanced and follow-up GPS workshops in 2015. Currently, the ICCA Capacity Building Task Force being chaired by Ms. Kaori Matsue of Mitsui Chemicals, is re-evaluating its set strategic objectives previously defined as GPS awareness building workshop, Basic Product Stewardship and Chemicals Management in Downstream Customers. The Responsible Care® Integrated Program or RCIP was introduced as the new concept of the capacity building program.

Topics presented during the meeting were updates from ICCA CP&H Leadership Group meeting held in Tokyo by Ms. Matsue, ICCA CP&H LG and other international forums regarding chemical management by Mr. Kazukuni Saito, Information of Resources (Chemicals DB & Tools) from Japan and demonstration on the use of the ASEAN-Japan Chemical Safety Database (AJCSD) by Mr. Takahiro Uegaki.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Setyabudhi Zuber of Responsible Care Indonesia (RCI) and was attended by representatives from Responsible Care® associations from Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
