24 Jun Regional Chemical Security Leadership Summit
The Indian Chemical Council (ICC) in collaboration with CRDF Global and U.S. Department of State Chemical Safety Engagement Program (CSP) conducted a three-day Regional Chemical Security Leadership Summit on June 20-22, 2016 at the Taj Lands End, Mumbai, India.
The summit which was attended by regional chemical security leaders from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Turkey, and Ukraine, focused on the implementation of the Responsible Care© Security Code and examples of leadership by national chemical associations that promote chemical safety and security in their country.
In his welcome message, Mr. Peter Gambill of the CSP said that “This is truly a leadership forum because the individuals in this room are truly empowered leaders in this particular subject.” According to Mr. Gambill, “In my 10 years working on this particular program, I saw a tremendous progress. The chemical security program is an initiative funded by the U.S. foreign assistance money to promote concepts and best practices that directly addresses chemical security issues in industry, academia and government.”
Mr. Daniel Roczniak, Senior Director, Responsible Care® at American Chemistry Council (ACC), who’s been working with the ICC to enhance its existing Responsible Care© program was one of the summit speakers. He presented the Responsible Care® global evolution and ACC’s implementation of Responsible Care® Security Code. Joining Mr. Roczniak, was Mr Peter Newport, Chief Executive Officer of the Chemical Business Association (CBA) U.K. Mr. Newport presented the best practices on chemical security along the supply chain in the U.K and Europe while Dr. Rohan Perera, Senior International Cooperation Officer of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) presented the Role of OPCW in the Chemical Safety and Security Management.
The regional delegates presented their outstanding commitment and contribution to the chemical security agenda of their company, association, country, or region. It also featured discussions on chemical security success stories with an emphasis on how the organizational goals were achieved and identification of best practices that could be implemented by workshop participants.
The regional delegates also had the opportunity visiting the office of Technopurple IT Solutions, the developer of Nicer Globe, a GPS tracking system used by ICC Members.
