On July 17, 2024, the Selah Pods Hotel in Pasay City served as the backdrop for a significant meeting between the Samahan sa Pilipinas ng mga Industriyang Kimika (SPIK) and Saltegra Consulting LLC. The alliance aims to fortify the chemical industry’s commitment to process safety, a critical aspect of the sector’s growth and sustainability. Engr. Reinier Jay C. Bagabay, SPIK’s Responsible Care Chairman, led the delegation, while Saltegra’s Engr. Reyson Dave Dela Cruz, Operations Manager, and Engr. Marian Mendoza, Technical Marketing Engineer, represented the consulting firm.

The meeting’s central agenda revolves around the potential memorandum of understanding (MOU) that could revolutionize process safety management within the chemical industry. By pooling their collective expertise, SPIK and Saltegra aim to introduce advanced strategies and best practices to mitigate risks and enhance operational efficiency. The proposed MOU is anticipated to create a robust framework for knowledge exchange and capacity building, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in chemical processes.

The meeting’s agenda also included the exciting prospect of hosting a series of webinars focused on process safety. This initiative not only underscores the importance of safety within the industry but also exemplifies the shared commitment of both parties to enhance the sector’s overall performance and sustainability. This strategic alliance is aligned with the objectives of the Philippine Chemical Industry Roadmap (PCIR), particularly its Safer Materials and Operations strategy, where Saltegra plays a significant role as a member of the Small Working Group (SWG).

The collaboration is expected to yield a blueprint for the successful implementation of advanced safety measures, thereby reinforcing the resilience of the chemical sector and contributing to the nation’s economic growth. This synergistic approach is a testament to the collaborative spirit that continues to drive progress in the Philippines’ industrial landscape.
