In line with the implementation of DAO 2015-009 Rules and Procedures for the Implementation of the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals in Preparation of Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and Labelling Requirement of Toxic Chemical Substance, the DENR-EMB conducted a consultative meeting for the identification and preparation of draft policy of High Volume Chemicals (HVCs) on September 29, 2016.

The multi-sectoral meeting was attended by representatives from the Bureau of Working Conditions (BWC), Board of Investments (BOI), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), non government organizations (Ecowaste) and industry representatives.

The draft criteria on the assessment of HVCs were presented by Ms. Teresita Corpuz of Terecor Environmental Consultancy. It included acute and chronic toxicity, developmental toxicity, reproductive toxicity, ecotoxicity and environmental fate which were based on Screening Information Data Set (SIDS). The initial list of chemicals based on a 500 metric ton quantity / volume was also presented.
