In line with the commitment to promote Responsible Care® (RC) as its flagship program, SPIK recently conducted the annual Responsible Care® seminar for its members on April 22, 2016 at the One Pacific Place Hotel, Makati City.

Responsible Care® is the industry’s voluntary commitment to continuously improve environmental, health and safety performance and commitment to contribute to sustainable development. The seminar aims to provide awareness on RC and assistance to RC Coordinators in the proper filling-up of the Self-Assessment Report (SAR) and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) form which are submitted annually by members.

Some thirty five (35) participants including representatives from the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), Bureau of Customs (BOC) and Export Marketing Bureau (EMB) and from the Philippine Plastics Industry Association (PPIA) attended the seminar and were welcomed by Dir. Janet Marcellana through her opening message.

Members of the Responsible Care Council, Ms. Joy Manzo-Peña, Ms. Rain Yaba, Mr. Enet Batac, Ms. Dall Palisoc, Mr. Pio Ramirez and Ms. Cynthia Reyes discussed the seven (7) Codes of Management Practices and implementation guideline of RC.

Ms. Gretchen Fontejon- Enarle started the discussion on the overview of RC, KPI and the verification process. She also introduced two (2) softwares which are helpful sources of information in the implementation of a chemical management program and in export and import activities.

The ASEAN-Japan Chemical Safety Database (AJCSD) is a program initiated by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan and participated by the ASEAN countries. It is a database of chemicals and chemical regulations shared by the participating countries. On the other hand, Chemlinked is a website developed and managed by REACH24H and also a depository of chemicals laws on wider scope including China, Korea, EU and USA.
