SPIK Holds 181st General Membership Meeting: “Chemicals for All: Green Growth Ahead”

The Samahan sa Pilipinas ng mga Industriyang Kimika (SPIK) successfully conducted its 181st General Membership Meeting on June 17, 2026, with the theme “Chemicals for All: Green Growth Ahead.” The event highlighted the industry’s commitment to sustainable growth, innovation, and collaboration catering to an environmentally responsible future.

The meeting was officially opened by Mr. Arnold Benitez, Director of SPIK, who underscored the pivotal role of the chemical industry in driving inclusive and green economic development. His opening remarks set the tone for a dynamic session focused on embracing sustainability and fostering innovation.

A presentation was delivered by Ms. Kristina Paulo A. Ratio, Senior Science Research Specialist of SPIK’s technology partner, the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD). Ms. Ratio showcased several programs and initiatives designed to support the chemical industry’s transition towards sustainability and technological advancement, encouraging partnerships between industry stakeholders, academe, and government agencies.

Another landmark moment of the gathering was the launch of the SPIK Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Committee named A.S.P.I.R.E. or Advancing Sustainability Practices in Responsible Care Excellence, spearheaded by Engr. Gretchen F. Enarle, Director of the SPIK ESG Committee. This forward-looking initiative aims to compile and exhibit the best practices of SPIK member companies in implementing the Responsible Care® Seven Codes of Management Practice. The A.S.P.I.R.E platform seeks to foster a culture of learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the chemical sector, reinforcing responsible care and sustainable operations.

The meeting also warmly welcomed new members into the SPIK community. Axalta Coatings Systems, represented by Mr. Erwin Diadula, Chief Executive, and Merck Inc., represented by Ms. Sydney Doce from the Product Management Group, took their membership oath, strengthening the organization’s diverse industry representation.

A significant highlight was the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between SPIK and the Pollution Control Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PCAPI). The MOU was signed by Engr. Aldrich F. Bentilanon, SPIK President, and Ms. Luzviminda Angeles, President of PCAPI. This renewed partnership reinforces the collaboration between the two organizations in promoting environmental protection and sustainable industrial practices.

Adding further value to the event, Mr. Victor Risma IV, AVP and Head of Enterprise Industrial and Generators at Meralco, shared insights on various sustainability programs and emerging opportunities that could benefit SPIK member companies in their journey toward greener operations.

Concluding his remarks, Director Romeo Dela Cruz called on all members to take forward the momentum generated by the meeting. He encouraged everyone to actively implement best practices, pursue innovation in green technologies, and uphold environmental and social governance principles in all operations. He underscored that through unity and collective action, SPIK can lead the chemical industry toward a future that balances profitability with environmental stewardship and social responsibility.
