SPIK HOLDS 169th GMM IN FIRST QUARTER 2023

Spread the love

The Samahan sa Pilipinas ng mga Industriyang Kimika (SPIK) held its 169th General Membership Meeting with the theme: “A Stronger, Bolder, and Sustainable Chemical Industry in 2023 and Beyond” and induction of the incoming Officers and Board of Directors for Administrative Year 2023-2024 in the first quarter 2023 on March 28, 2023 at the Acacia Hotel Manila in Alabang. The confirmation of the elections of the six incoming Board of induction Directors and election of the President and Officers were done earlier last February 21, 2023 during the board meeting. Engr. Gretchen F. Enarle from Atlantic Coating s was again elected President by the Board of Directors.

With the winding down of the Covid 19 pandemic, it was an exhilarating feeling to meet face to face again the incoming officers and board of directors, SPIK members and guests after three years of virtual meetings, consultations, and GMMs. An appreciative 45 members and 20 guests attended the affair. The theme of the GMM is also most timely as the Philippine Chemical Industry emerged unscathed, stronger as it aggressively pursues the Updating of the Chemical Industry Roadmap which is on its third phase from 2022-2030. A Steering Committee was organized to see this endeavor through under the able chairmanship of Mr. Roberto Batungbacal, former SPIK President from Dow Philippines. The GMM Program is as follows:

President Enarle during her address presented a short but comprehensive description of SPIK which has been Empowering Chemical Industry since 1977, the Vision, Mission, Core Values, Organizational Structure, the committees and most importantly, the Flagship Program of the industry, Responsible Care to re-orient the members and guests in attendance about the association. EMB Region IV-CALABARZON Director Noemi Paranada delivered her keynote address and Jepp Farrales of the EMB Solid Waste Management Division presented the salient provisions of R.A. 11898 a.k.a Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Act of 2022.

The President and Executive Director gave a surprise to the immediate Past SPIK President Dennis Tirthdas by awarding him a Leadership Plaque and Certificate of Recognition for his leadership during the Covid 19 pandemic years. He steered the association through the turbulent years which made the industry relevant and important by responding to the call of DTI for supplies of disinfectant, cleaning chemicals with the required packaging and dispensers. SPIK was also active in participating in virtual meetings, consultations, webinars and dialogues with relevant government agencies. Likewise, the association continued submitting position papers on regulations that adversely affected the industry. This resulted to the successful revision of six parameters in the Effluent Standards (DAO 2016-08) with the issuance of DAO 2021-19 by the DENR-EMB which was a welcome relief not only for the chemical industry but for all industries as well.

The 169th GMM was indeed a big step for the Philippine Chemical Industry  as it stepped out of the gloomy years of the pandemic.
