18 Mar Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Plastic Wastes Management
Plastic waste is one of the major problems locally and globally. As a matter of fact, in a 2015 report on plastic pollution by the Ocean Conservancy charity and the McKinsey Centre for Business and Environment ranked the Philippines as the third-largest source of discarded plastic that ends up in the ocean, behind two other Asian nations: China and Indonesia.
The Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) organized a FGD on plastic waste management last March 6, 2020 at the DOST, PCIEERD Compound in Bicutan Taguig.
The SPIK was represented by its President Engr. Gretchen Fontejon- Enarle, was invited to participate in the FGD. Together with Engr. Enarle, representatives from the academe, relevant government agencies, industry and non-government organizations (NGOs) were invited to provide comments, recommendations and insights on the content of the plans and programs of PCIEERD.
As part of the activity, the participants were group into three (3) sectors: academe, industry and government agencies. Prior to the group discussion, Uniliver and Nestle were invited to present their current programs on sustainability and management of their plastic wastes.
