The Philippine Board of Investments (BOI) has formally launched the Academe-Industry Matching (AIM) program, which aims to address challenges in the labor market and enhance workforce development. The inauguration event drew approximately 300 participants and included keynote speeches from notable figures, such as Cong. Atty. Ron Salo from the Kabayan Partylist and Undersecretary Fatima Del Rosario-Limpo Panontongan from the Department of Education (DepEd).
Cong. Salo’s keynote message highlighted the significance of human capitalization and skills development for the nation’s economic growth. In line with this, BOI Executive Director Dichosa discussed the program’s purpose and origins, emphasizing the need to overcome common constraints such as the ease of doing business and the availability of skilled workers.
Dr. Dan Lachica of the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Foundation, Inc. (SEIPI) presented the salient features of the Advanced Manufacturing Development (AmDev) Roadmap, which is designed to enhance the competitiveness of the local electronics industry.
The event also showcased the Lights-Out Factories initiative, introduced by Prof. Ernesto “Boogie” Boydon, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Tagpros Education. This concept focuses on creating a future-ready workforce capable of operating in highly automated manufacturing environments.
A highlight of the launch was the AIMablers Dialogue: Champions of Workforce Development open forum, where industry leaders and stakeholders engaged in discussions about synchronizing the education system with the demands of various industries. The panels included Dr. Lachica representing manufacturing, Ms. Frankie Antolin from the IT-BPM sector, and Mr. Teddy Monroy from UNIDO as the development partner. The discussion centered on the significance of teamwork in creating a skilled workforce that can effectively compete internationally.
In her closing remarks, Director Aline G. Magalong of CHED reiterated the importance of a unified approach to workforce development, emphasizing that a competitive high-value workforce is vital for the Philippines’ continued growth and competitiveness in the international arena. The AIM program is a testament to the government’s commitment to fostering an environment that supports innovation and sustainable industrial development.
