The conference, co-steered by Singapore and Japan, saw Ms. Kelly Lai of Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry and Mr. Takanori Kikuchi from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) offering the opening addresses.

The meeting agenda was a variety of topics, with the spotlight on the current state of the chemical industry and the policies that govern it. Participants eagerly shared their countries’ latest chemical regulations and policies, with Japan presenting a comprehensive update on their initiatives concerning the EU’s potential restriction of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). This critical dialogue touched on international frameworks such as the Stockholm Convention, underlining the importance of a united approach to environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance.

The session embraced discussions on sustainability reporting, with a sharp focus on climate change and emissions, reflecting the growing international commitment to environmental stewardship. Moreover, delegates exchanged insights on the progress of the ASEAN Regulatory Cooperation Platform (ARCP) and the latest developments within the APEC Chemical Dialogue (APEC CD), aiming to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among member nations.

The event culminated with closing statements delivered by Ms. Lai from Singapore and Mr. Kikuchi from Japan, encapsulating the day’s exchanges, and reaffirming the group’s dedication to bolstering the chemical industry’s sustainable growth and regulatory harmonization within the region.
