Asia-Pacific Responsible Care® Organization (APRO) Meeting

Responsible Care® leaders gathered together in the recently concluded Asia- Pacific Responsible Care® Organization (APRO) meeting on June 29, 2016 at the Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort, Pattaya, Thailand. The meeting is held annually to discuss and inform the chemical industry associations on the updates of ICCA- RCLG activities.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the turnover ceremony for the Vice Chairman- RCLG and APRO leadership by Mr. Kyosuke Okano to Mr. Sohei Morita of Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. In his farewell message, Mr. Okano said that “It’s about time to step up the policy of the APRO meeting.”  Based on the mutual trust of this meeting, Mr Okano said that “It is important that each member share the progress and difficulties that each member is facing so that the other members can offer their advices.” He also encouraged the RC leaders to make a plan or vision of the country to support the ICCA and establish a roadmap to achieve those goals.

Mr. Kazukuni Saito of the Japan Chemical Industry Association (JCIA) discussed the RC Integrated Program or RCIP, a new concept proposed by the JCIA to the Capacity Building Taskforce (CBTF) led by Ms. Kaori Matsue to enhance the capacity building program of ICCA while the Global Process Safety Metric Implementation including ways to prepare the data gathering for process safety event was presented by Mr. Kazuyuki Akita, also from JCIA and member of the Process Safety Taskforce.

The RC leaders from Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam welcomed the participation of the Sri Lanka Responsible Care® Council (LRCC) to the RCLG and Association of International Chemical Manufacturers (AICM) of China to the APRO meeting.
