The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) recently held a three-day training workshop in Dumaguete City to update its officers and staff on the latest chemical rules and regulations under Title II of Republic Act 6969. The event, which ran from November 5-7, 2024, aimed to enhance the understanding and harmonization of chemical policies among the participants from various EMB regional offices.

Assistant Director Esperanza Sajul delivered the opening message on behalf of Assistant Secretary Jacqueline A. Caancan.

Engr. Edwin Navaluna elucidated the training’s objectives, setting the stage for a comprehensive exploration of current environmental policies.

A highlight of the event included a presentation by Engr. Gretchen F. Enarle, President of the Samahan sa Pilipinas na mga Industriyang Kimika (SPIK), on the Philippines Chemical Industry Roadmap spanning 2023-2028. This session offered valuable insights into the future trajectory of the chemical sector and its environmental implications.

The workshop delved into critical policy areas such as the Minamata Convention, PCB management, chemical emergency readiness, confidential business information (CBI) handling, and the administration of the Philippine Inventory of Chemicals and Chemical Substances (PICCS).

This training underscores the EMB’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the effective implementation of chemical regulations for a safer and more sustainable environment.
