On July 10, 2024, the ICCA Responsible Care® Leadership Group (RCLG) convened a significant conference call, addressing the urgent matters of global plastic pollution and trade. Ms. Lea Dumagat from the American Chemistry Council (ACC) led discussions on the upcoming fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC5), aiming to forge a robust international treaty to combat the escalating issue of plastic waste. She outlined the strategic preparations underway for the pivotal meeting, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in crafting effective policies. Following her, Mr. Jason Bernstein from ACC presented an in-depth review of the ICCA Trade CCG’s progress, highlighting the Plastics Trade and Economic Framework paper that seeks to streamline sustainable practices within the industry.

Ms. Sarah Sherwood, also from ACC, introduced an innovative KPI webtool designed to enhance transparency and facilitate data sharing among members. She walked the attendees through the new login requirements and addressed any concerns or queries, ensuring a smooth transition to the advanced platform. The conference call concluded with Ms. Ana Ocampo providing essential logistical details for the forthcoming September 24-25 meeting, graciously hosted by Responsabilidad Integral Colombia (RIC).

The SPIK delegation, comprised of President Engr. Gretchen F. Enarle and Ms. Antonette C. Fallarme, bringing the Philippines’ perspective and commitment to the forefront of international chemical stewardship efforts. This conference call exemplified the collective commitment of RCLG members to drive environmental protection and responsible trade practices in the global chemical sector.
