South Asia Regional Chemical Management Workshop

Participants from South Asian region, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, gather together for a 3-day seminar- workshop on Chemical Safety and Security Management on December 4- 6, 2018 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The workshop organized by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and the National Authority of Sri Lanka,  aims to promote chemical safety and security management in the chemical industry . It also aims to foster wider cooperation among States Parties on issues related to the chemical industry toward achieving the objectives of Article XI of the Convention in promoting the peaceful uses of chemistry. The workshop primarily for representative of National Authorities, governmental institution, chemical industries, academia, laboratory and managers involved in chemical security management.

A plant visit to American & Efird Lanka (Pvt) Ltd was conducted. It showcased how a safety and security management is implemented in a textile manufacturing firm.

The Workshop was supported by the US Department of State Chemical Safety Engagement Program and Sandia National Laboratories. Delegates from Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia and Philippines were invited to serve as Speakers and share best practices on the implementation of chemical safety and security.
