SPIK Supports Legislative Drive on Hazardous Waste Management

The Samahan sa Pilipinas ng mga Industriyang Kimika (SPIK) attended the 2nd Technical Working Group (TWG) meeting on the proposed Hazardous Waste Management Act, on February 11, 2026, at the House of Representatives. The meeting was chaired by Hon. Maria Vanessa C. Aumentado and served by Secretariat Atty. Dilbert N. Quetulio, assembled the various stakeholders of the Philippine government, industry and civil society. They TWG reviewed the combined working draft, House Bill No. 4281, which aims to provide a comprehensive system for managing hazardous waste in the country.

At the meeting, SPIK stressed that the chemical industry has to strike a balance between protecting the environment and the realities of business. They shared best practices on waste minimization, safe handling, and disposal methods to reduce adverse environmental impacts. The Committee stressed the need for a reasonable and enforceable Law benefiting both industry stakeholders as well as the community at large.

The TWG meeting, under the leadership of Chairperson Aumentado and the Secretariat, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the forging of collaboration between the public and private sectors. SPIK hopes to continue working with agencies and committees and support sustainable industrial practices in order to achieve the passage of the Hazardous Waste Management Act.
