10 May Stakeholder Consultation Meeting on the GHG Reporting Protocol and Inventory Management Plan for the Business Sector
The Climate Change Commission (CCC) has been engaging the private sector in various activities under its UNDP assisted Low Emission Capacity Building Philippine (LECB PHL) Project. The private sector is represented in the: (1) National Steering Committee (NSC) which acts as the Project Board that provides overall guidance and direction in implementing the project, (2) in the Core Technical Working Group (TWG) and, (3) in the six TWGs for the different focus sectors including: agriculture, waste, industry, transport, forestry and energy (AWIT-FE). The government is also building on the synergies created by the business summits which were held in 2013 through 2015 to engage the private sector in climate change adaptation and mitigation activities.
The Stakeholder Consultation Meeting on the GHG Reporting Protocol and Inventory Management Plan for the Business Sector organized by the CCC was held on May 05, 2016 at the Discovery Suites, Ortigas Center, Pasig City. Mr. Bonar Laureto, GHG Accounting Private Sector Expert and Mr. Seigi Bosque, Project Manager & Mitigation Specialist of Factor CO2 Integral Services facilitated the discussion on GHG Inventory Roadmap, GHG Inventory Protocol, GHG Program Specifications and Recognition Program for the Project.
Mr. Francis Benito, Chief Technical Adviser of the CCC-LECB PHL Project, said that “in the various meetings / workshops conducted by the Project and in the Business Summits with the private sector, significant GHG emissions in a company’s value chain was recognized and this may result in increased costs or reduced sales.”
The CCC is currently developing long-term comprehensive climate change strategies to engage the private sector in climate change mitigation including the development of a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reporting Protocol and Inventory Management Plan (IMP) for businesses/ industries.
