The Samahan sa Pilipinas ng mga Industriyang Kimika (SPIK) with the leadership of the Responsible Care® Council conducted the Process Safety Workshop last December 16-17, 2014 at the Acacia Hotel, Alabang, Muntinlupa,  dubbed as the first workshop of its kind, was attended by more than 60 participants, SPIK and non-SPIK companies.

Participants were welcomed by no less than the President of SPIK, Mr. Joey G. Marcalain, during his opening remarks followed by a short introduction of each of the attendees. In his speech, Mr. Marcalain emphasized the importance of Process Safety in the facilities and the importance of participating in the organized workshop. He also expressed appreciation to the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA), Responsible Care® Leadership Group (RCLG) for the continued support extended to SPIK.

Process Safety Workshop 1

The workshop was made possible through the concerted efforts of Members of the Responsible Care® Council who served as speakers. The first day topics were delivered by Ms. Cynthia Reyes on Process Safety Overview, Mr. Renato Batac was assigned to Chemical Hazards in Process Industries and Process Equipment Inspection and Ms. Joy Manzo on Process Hazard Identification, Ms. Dall Palisoc on Process Hazard Analysis. On the other hand, Ms. Arlene Villanueva discussed Management of Change, Ms. Gretchen Fontejon on Accident and Incident Investigation while Mr. Pio Ramirez and Mr. Cesar Domingo discussed safe Work Practices and Emergency Response Management respectively. Appreciation was also extended to the Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) and the U.S. Department of State for the training materials used during the training.

Process Safety Workshop 2

Speakers from the different government agencies that implement laws on process safety were also invited. Engr. Constante Villoria from the Department of Labor and Employment- Bureau of Working Conditions (DOLE-BWC) discussed the laws and regulations of the said agency while representative from the Occupational Safety and Health Center discussed Industrial Hygiene concepts. The second day ended with a behavioral based safety topic from DuPont.
